Motivational Moment Ep. 19: Black Women & Racial Disparities During Childbirth

Our latest Motivational Moment episode continues to explore my mission to educate the community on racial disparities in the administration of healthcare. In this episode I review a study released by the National Bureau of Economic Research that states that black patients were 25% more likely to have an unscheduled cesarean section than white patients, putting them at a higher risk of many serious complications associated with that procedure. There were two factors behind this disparity, racial bias and financial incentives. I also discuss what you can do to protect yourself and your loved ones from facing these kinds of difficult healthcare decisions during what is supposed to be a joyous time.
